A 30-year-old drunk driver stopped near Olds in February 2010 has been jailed.The accused pleaded guilty in Didsbury provincial court on July 11 to a charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent.The accused was pulled over on Feb. 10, 2010 after a patrolling RCMP member noticed his vehicle swerving across lanes on the area roadway, court heard.When the member approached the man's vehicle, the accused said, ìI have been drinking today,î said Crown prosecutor Deven Singhal.When being led to the police car for a breath test, the accused stumbled, Singhal said.The driver's blood-alcohol level was 150 mg per cent.The accused had a previous drunk driving conviction in 2008, court heard.ìThere's no excuse for what I did,î the accused said.Judge George Gaschner ordered Justin Pross, 30, jailed for 14 days.Driver was swerving on Highway 2A 60-year-old man pulled over on Highway 2 after police spotted an erratic driver has been fined.The accused pleaded guilty on July 11 to a charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent.The accused was ìswerving badlyî on the highway when he was pulled over on May 27, court heard.His blood-alcohol level at the time was 120 mg per cent.The accused said he was driving erratically because he had just dropped a cigarette onto his lap.The judge fined William Lesley, 60, a total of $1,000 and prohibited him from driving for one year.Drunk driver hit cable barrierA 44-year-old drunk driver who slammed into the cable barrier divider on Highway 2 near Didsbury last month has been fined.The accused pleaded guilty July 11 to a charge of driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent.The accused was arrested as he stood outside his vehicle after hitting the fence shortly before midnight on June 20, court heard.His blood-alcohol level was 170 mg per cent.ìI'm really sorry about this,î the accused told Judge Gaschner.The judge fined Valery Taschuk, 44, a total of $1,200 and prohibited him from driving for one year.
