LACOMBE - The Innisfail Eagles played their hearts out at the Allan Cup final game but they fell just short.
They were defeated 5-2 by the Lacombe Generals Saturday night (April 13) in a thrilling national championship contest.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period. The Generals took a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Justin Cox scored both Eagles goals.
The third and final period was exciting end to end hockey but the Generals held on with a minute to play with the score still 3-2.
The Birds pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but the Generals added two more in the empty net to make the final score 5-2...…...more later
