Family Auto Sales Inc. in Carstairs has made what can only be described as a generous donation in support of the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre (CAPCC) Olds branch.

The company has donated a 2013 Smart Car to be auctioned off during a silent auction at a March 1 fundraising banquet at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites in Olds.

The company is owned by Graham and Bonnie Steckly.

"We feel compassion for and care about these individuals when faced with some of the dilemmas when they become pregnant and need help," said Graham.

"We love our community and we've had extremely good support over the years. This is a small way to give back."

The 2013 Smart Car being donated is a two-occupant vehicle built by Mercedes and is extremely good on fuel, he explained.

"It's a vehicle that would make a perfect second car for somebody," he said. "They are compact, they take very little space in your garage and would be great for a senior. They are fun to drive and very well designed for stability and handling."

There will be no reserved bid on the vehicle being auctioned off on March 1, he said.

"We are going to put it out there by faith," he said. "So whatever the car sells for at the auction, the charity will get 100 per cent of the proceeds.

"We have been selling them for around the $6,500 mark off the lot. We hope that it produces good results for the charity."

CAPCC director Cindy Palin called the Family Auto Sales donation very generous.

"We are very, very excited," said Palin.

Opened in 2014, the CAPCC offers support and education to individuals and families impacted by pregnancy.

"All programs and services at the centre are free, confidential, and offered in a safe and non-judgmental environment, regardless of age, gender, race or religion," she said.

Services and programs provided at the centre include pregnancy tests, information about pregnancy, abortion procedures and risks, parenting and adoption, she said.

In the past Family Auto Sales has supported other community charities, such as the food bank, 4H, skateboard park and sports clubs.
