CARSTAIRS - Town of Carstairs council has given approval for a fence and related signs to be built at the Pawsitive Haven Animal Rescue (PHAR) facility in town.

The move came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.

In a letter received by council, Ashley Reid, the president of PHAR, outlined the need for the fence.

“We would really love to be able to build a fence so that our rescue dogs are not locked up in the kennels all day and have access to a place for them to play,” said Reid.

“Having a fence can make a world of difference for these animals. It will allow us a space to play games, do training, agility and socialize these dogs.

“We do not believe it’s fair for these dogs to be stuck in kennels all the time with only walks available. Their chances of getting adopted will increase once we are able to have a space to work with them.”

In order to pay for the fence, Reid has come up with a plan to have local and area businesses sponsor signs that will be attached to the fence.

“The signs are a great way for use to raise the funds needed to get materials to build the fence and show how supportive the town really is,” she said. “This is the only foreseeable way for use to raise enough money to be able to build this fence, which we do desperately need.

“Our plan is to have all the signs facing towards the front side of the building so it will not be an eye sore. The signs are specifically designed to withhold being outside on the fence.”

CAO Carl McDonnell says a development permit is not needed for the project.
