Frost advisories were issued Sunday for Mountain View and Red Deer counties along with urban centres near them due to low temperatures.

Environment Canada’s 4:02 p.m. Sept. 16 alert included a special weather statement for the areas of Red Deer County near Elnora, Lousana, Delburne, Penhold, Innisfail, Bowden, Pine Lake, Spruce View, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Sylvan Lake.

It also included Mountain View County near Carstairs, Cremona, Water Valley, Olds, Didsbury and Sundre.

“Temperatures will fall to near or just below zero tonight. Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas," the alert stated.

The federal agency issues frost advisories when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops.
