Government opens Canada summer job program

The Canada Summer Jobs 2015 program is now accepting applications from Central Alberta employers for funding to non-profit, public-sector employers, and small businesses.

The Canada Summer Jobs 2015 program is now accepting applications from Central Alberta employers for funding to non-profit, public-sector employers, and small businesses.

Organizations looking to hire qualified young people aged 15 to 30 full-time and retuning to school in the fall are eligible for the program, which provides up to 100 per cent of wages and mandatory costs for non-profits and 50 per cent for for-profits.

"Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping young Canadians get the skills and experience they need to get jobs now and in the future," said Earl Dreeshen, MP for Red Deer.

"I encourage employers to apply for funding to create jobs that will help students, employers and their local economies grow."

Since 2006, the government has helped over six million young Canadians receive experience, training, and skills needed for better jobs.

Part of the government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy, Canada Summer Jobs helps students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, now and in the future, while earning money for the upcoming school year.

The federal government job creation strategies include the Youth Employment Strategy (YES) for youths aged 15 to 30 to gain the skills, job experience, and abilities the need to transition to the workplace, the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, skills link, and career focus.

"Our government's priorities are creating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity," he said. "The summer jobs program is just one of the options."

Employers can apply for CSJ online at servicecanada.gc.ca/csj, in person, or through the mail by Jan. 15. Information about accessing applications is available by calling 1-800-935-5555, or by visiting any Service Canada Centre.
