Great turnout for the chamber AGM

CARSTAIRS - There were record numbers of people in attendance at the Carstairs Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting held Jan. 16 at the Carstairs Heritage Centre, say organizers.

Darrah Selanders, who was re-elected chamber president, said it was great to see such a good turnout.

"The turnout for this meeting was spectacular," said Selanders. "It was four to six times the typical Carstairs Chamber of Commerce meeting attendance. The discussion was thought-provoking and passionate. Where in the past we have struggled with volunteers, this year we have added five new director positions to our board."

The five new directors are: Shirley Colby from The Only One Under the Sun, Nerissa Pitts from Wicked Willow Log Works, Carolin Roemer with Caro's Clips, Darien Roy with Capers, and James Vent from Ventcomp.

The agenda for the meeting featured the heritage festival planning committee, a budget report and a review of the upcoming strategic plan directives, said chamber executive director Jennifer Benner.

"We also covered our many 2018 highlights including Carstairs Crazy Christmas, an appointment of a new executive director and the ever favourite Beef and Barley Days pancake breakfast," said Benner.

Returning to the chamber of commerce executive for a one-year term are: Darrah Selanders from Re/Max and Carstairs Mini-storage as president; Terry Kubinchak of Subway as vice-president; Robert Andrews of BMO as treasurer; and Jessica Sheilke from Uptown Gym as secretary.

"For the first time in many years there were multiple nominations accepted for the president position, which required a closed ballot with Darrah Selanders winning her second term by majority," said Benner.

Chamber members are welcome at all meetings and events throughout the year. Membership is included with the purchase of a Town of Carstairs business licence.
