Hail but no tornado

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Emergency personnel from Olds and area were on stand-by Sunday, July 9 as Environment Canada issued an Emergency Alert for the county at approximately 5 p.m.

The alert indicated a large rotating cloud formation had the potential to produce a tornado and severe storm conditions.

The storm was tracked locally by emergency personnel from Olds, Bowden and Torrington. According to the Olds Fire Department, the storm was in excess of five miles across. There were no reports of funnel clouds but rain and hail hit the area. Hail ranging in size from marbles to tennis balls were reported.

Environment Canada cancelled the alert for the Mountain View County region at 9:47 p.m. on July 9.
