Mountain View County council has approved funding for several area groups under the municipality's health initiatives program.

The approvals came during the recent regularly scheduled council meeting. Groups receiving funding were the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre ($1,000), Didsbury and District Historical Society ($2,222) and the Hope 4 MVC Kids Society ($7,000).

The Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre is located in Olds. According to the 2014 funding request, the program's goals include to “teach parents to have the capacity to provide positive parenting to their children”, help parents “gain community and social connections to support their child's development and well being.”

It also aims to “improve confidence and self worth, improve health and safety, improve coping skills and problem solving abilities, and encourage mutual support among parents and community resources.”

The Didsbury and District Historical Society is planning to purchase an AED (automated external defibrillator) for the museum and supply training to some of the volunteers in CPR and the use of the machine.

The Carstairs-based Hope 4 MVC Kids Society provides assistance to families of children in medical need.
