RCMP are advising of multiple traffic incidents on Highway 2 between Bowden and Carstairs that are affecting travel Thursday evening.

"Use caution while travelling and expect delays," the province's travel advisory service added in it's 6:23 p.m. update.

The southbound lanes of Highway 2 at Township Road 310 east of Carstairs have re-opened after lanes were closed earlier Thursday evening, an Alberta 511 post noted at 8:05 p.m.

Lanes were closed due to a motor vehicle collision.

Major delays were expected southbound and travellers  were advised to use a different route. Northbound lanes remained open.

The day's cold weather advisory for the Airdrie – Cochrane – Olds – Sundre area issued earlier in the day, turned into a snowfall warning, according to Environment Canada's 4:38 p.m. update.

"A narrow band of heavy snow will move through the area this evening bringing up to 10 (centimetres) of snow and nearly zero visibility. Heavy snowfall will taper off this evening. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions," the new snowfall warning stated.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Delays in the area on Highway 2 started in the Bowden area around 4 p.m. with a motor vehicle collision on the highway approaching the junction with Highway 587.
