Lisa Nicholson, founder of Hope 4 MVC Kids Society, is on a tour of the region giving presentations to municipal councils about the county organization.

She recently gave a presentation to Didsbury council on July 24. Nicholson told council that Hope 4 MVC Kids is a non-profit society which was formed in 2013.

Nicholson said she started the organization after finding limited resources available to help her family with her own daughter who has a chronic medical condition requiring hospitalizations and medical support/equipment.

"I'm actually making my rounds across the county just presenting to all the local councils just letting them know what we do in the community," said Nicholson to council. "You may not be aware of what this non-profit organization does and how we help the community county-wide."

Hope 4 MVC Kids Society provides assistance to families all across Mountain View County related to expenses while children (aged 0-18) are hospitalized, such as parking, fuel, meals, accommodation as well as adaptive equipment for home or school. The organization also provides help with therapy costs and can help locate help and support during family crises.

Nicholson also talked about the upcoming fundraiser Raise the Roof, which will be held Nov. 24 at the Willow Lane Barn near Olds. The event will feature dinner, auctions and live music with Regenade Station from Stettler, winners of an Association of Country Music in Alberta award.

"Across the county to date we have helped 37 children," she said. "We've seen a huge influx of applications this year. Last year we received 10 applications all year. This year we've received 11 and it's only July. Without the community's support and grant applications we wouldn't be able to continue. This fundraiser is extremely important for us to make sure we can service those applications."
