Junior rodeo attracts 80 participants

The Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo event at the Raecer Ranching Riding arena east of Sundre on March 19 attracted a record 80 participants.

The rodeo features participants up to 14 years of age competing in goat tying, goat untying, pole bending, steer riding, breakaway roping and barrel racing.

“What a great day of rodeo action,” said co-organizer Patricia McKean. “The kids all did so well, awesome. There is so much improvement and kids are getting excited for the finals (in May).”

Casey Cyrankiewicz finished first in the seven and under pole bending event, taking home $112. Erika Webb finished second and Kazziah McFadden finished third.

Ellie Havens won the six and under goat tail untying event, winning $68. Raelynn Sande finished second and Levi Davis finished third. Noeh Kelly won the seven and under goat tying event, taking home $90. Casey Cyrankiewicz won the seven and under barrels event, taking home $120. Noah Kelly finished second and Kazziah McFadden finished third.

Dusty Golden won the steer riding event, taking home $60. Tyler Craig finished second and Jayce Richard finished third. Jaymie Conrad won the 12-14 breakaway roping event, taking home $36. Thomas Fisher finished second. Reagan Tebb won the 8-11 goat tying event, taking home $111. Abbie Lashmore finished second and Hope Tivendale finished third. Kyla Kelly won the 12-14 goat tying event, taking home $75. Amy Shuckburg finished second and Logan Bender finished third. Reagan Tebb won the 8-11 barrel racing event, taking home $141. Cora Croteau finished second and Kasha Borsy finished third. There were 19 competitors in that event.

Cati McArthur won the 12-14 barrel racing event, with Allie Pals coming in second and Amanda Harder finishing third. Presley Chaytors won the 8-11 pole bending event, taking home $141. Hannah Sheehan finished second and Tynell Schooten finished third. Cati McArthur won the 12-14 pole bending event, taking home $104. Kyla Kelly finished second and Kaidence Lashmore finished third. There were no recorded times in 8-11 breakaway roping or in 14 and under team roping.

“In the team roping there have been no catches at the last four rodeos so there is $325 for the header and $325 healer to go back into the payback at the next rodeo,” said McKean.

There were 75 competitors at the Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo in February.
