Lamoureux seeking community improvement

Alberta Advantage Party candidate Paula Lamoureux wants to be elected as MLA in the region, a move she says is about improving life for her family and for the community at large.

Alberta Advantage Party candidate Paula Lamoureux wants to be elected as MLA in the region, a move she says is about improving life for her family and for the community at large.

“I didn’t just wake up one day and decide I was going to run for MLA,” said Lamoureux. “It was when I went online to decide who I was going to vote for and I saw the platform of the Alberta Advantage Party. It was such a platform for Albertans that I wanted it for myself and my family.”

Lamoureux is seeking election in the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding. It is her first time seeking election as an MLA.

Although she hasn’t held public office at the provincial level, she has served as a school board trustee, being elected to a term in the Wolf Creek School Division in 2007.

For the past eight years she has been working as a development officer for the Summer Village of Pigeon Lake.

“I work closely with council so I’m very familiar with bylaw and policies and procedures,” she said.

Being a trustee and a development officer has allowed her to “work with people from all walks of life and achieve positive results,” she said.

She is calling on the province to hire additional provincial prosecutors and judges, as well as elevating sheriffs to help combat rural crime and the fentanyl crisis.

She would allow binding referendums by citizen-initiated petitions with 10 per cent of voter count in the last election.

She is also calling for the Bighorn Country proposal – which would create new provincial parks in western Alberta – to be scrapped and new consultations held.

"True leadership is not about advancing  yourself," she said. "It's about advancing your people. When I shake your hand, it is because I am working to move you forward."
