Sundre Municipal Library officials have given Mountain View County councillors an update on activities at the facility. The review came during the recent policies and priorities committee meeting.

Library manager Jamie Syer and board member Robert Griebel outlined visitor and circulation numbers, as well as some of the recent programs provided.

The library is part of Parkland Regional Library system, receiving funding from numerous stakeholder organizations, including Mountain View County.

"Sundre has become an important centre for Sundre and the surrounding community," said Sayer.

Circulation at the library was close to 50,000 items in 2016, with more than 25,000 user visits.

Program participants topped 3,000, and volunteers spent more than 1,000 hours helping out with programs and other activities.

Twenty-five participates took part in the recent Open Space process for public engagement.

The results of that process were used in preparation of the current plan of service for the library.

Goals of the library now include the following:

ï Nurture young learners through early literacy, with children under five having programs and services designed to equip them with skills necessary to begin a successful school career.

ï Be an informed citizen, with residents provided with information to assist them in fulfilling their civic responsibilities at the local, provincial and national levels, and to fully participate in informed decision-making.

ï Express creativity, explore literacy and pursue lifelong learning. Residents will be given the services and support they need to develop their imagination through creative activities, to explore the meaning of literacy, and to pursue topics of personal interest that promote continuous learning throughout their lives.

ï Know our community: Community resources and services. Residents will be given a reliable source of information for the wide variety of programs, services and activities offered in the community.

ï The library will provide residents with a safe and welcoming places for relaxation and enjoyment.
