The Cremona Lions Club is a serviced-based organization whose members volunteer to help our local community as well as their country and the world.

Our club raises funds by catering to the Water Valley Rodeo, Cremona Day (July 1), the Dog Pound Stampede, working at the casino, and operating the Cremona RV dump.

Our major fundraiser of the year is our annual garage sale and charity auction, which will be held this year on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Cremona Community Hall.

During this past year, the Cremona Lions Club has distributed approximately $34,500 back into the community.

Major beneficiaries were the University of Calgary Sight Centre, Cremona Skateboard Park, STARS, Water Valley Hall construction, a farm accident victim, Cremona School Enhancement Society, Mountain View Food Bank, Lions Youth Camp, Santa’s Anonymous, Congregational Church Christmas hampers, Cochrane Activettes hampers, and the Cremona School Breakfast program.

Minor beneficiaries include the Water Valley Terry Fox Run, Cremona Hall Board, Cremona Show and Shine, school scholarships and the volunteerism scholarship, Cremona 4-H Club, Cremona Minor Hockey Tykes tournament, Lions Leader Dog, Medical Ministry International, and local students participating in the Encounters With Canada program.

The winners of this year’s scholarships are: volunteerism -- Nicole Armstrong; band -- Cindy Minton-Dyke; French -- Nicole Armstrong; art -- Alia McCracken; top English-Social 30-2 -- Morgan Storch. Congratulations to all.

The Cremona Lions welcome new members to our club. Contact president Ken Newsome at 403-337-2331, John Shand at 403-637-3937 or any Lions member. See you on Nov. 3 at the garage sale and charity auction.
