CARSTAIRS/CREMONA/DIDSBURY - A new resource, Access to Food, is available for residents in Didsbury, Carstairs, Cremona and Water Valley who may have difficulty accessing food.

Jen Awde, public health dietitian for the Didsbury Health Unit, said the resource will be helpful for low income residents and anyone struggling with food.

"I did an assessment of the community to see what was needed from a nutrition perspective," said Awde. "This idea came up about people needing to know where to go to get food and so that's where this came from."

Awde compiled a list of resources of community agencies and other organizations providing food so that people in need have an easy resource to pick up and use in the region.

The list can be found at various places around the area such as Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) locations, doctors' offices, churches, as well as the organizations on the list.

The content includes free and low-cost food services, what is needed to access the services, and how to access the services.

Some of the resources on the list include: The Mountain View Food Bank in Olds, Heart to Home Meal Delivery, Carstairs and Didsbury Meals on Wheels, Carstairs Good Food Box, Christmas hamper programs in all three communities, Didsbury AG Foods home delivery (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), gift cards and free transport to the Mountain View Food Bank from Freedom House Fellowship in Didsbury, and Didsbury senior support services.

For further details on addresses and hours and other details please see the list.

Awde said they are only able to update the list once a year. She said the resource list will be reviewed and updated in the fall.
