Local 4-H members excel at regional competiton

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - 4-H members from the area recently did very well as they demonstrated their high quality communication skills for both their peers and judges alike in Strathmore.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - 4-H members from the area recently did very well as they demonstrated their high quality communication skills for both their peers and judges alike in Strathmore.

The Calgary Regional Communiciations Competition featured speech competitions in the morning, while presentation competitions took place in the afternoon.

"South Central Alberta was well represented from a variety of different clubs and counties including Foothills, Kneehill, Mountain View, Rockyview and Wheatland," said Alexia Hoy, communications director. "Each district sends their top two competitors in each age category and competition event. Juniors are 9 to 11 years old, intermediates are 12 to 14, and seniors are 15 to 20."

Top finishers in the presentation category from Mountain View were: David Fischer of the Eagle Beef and Multi Club, second place in Junior; Madison Syvret of the Olds 4-H Multi-Club, second in Intermediate; Clay Grattidge of the Cremona 4-H Club, third in Intermediate; McKenzie and Isabell McElhinney of the Bergen 4-H Multi Club, first place in Senior; and Brooke and Morgan Macklin of the Sundre 4-H Multi Club, third place in Senior.

The top finisher in the public speaking category from Mountain View was Davis Gottenbos of West Carstairs, first place in Junior.
