Half a dozen contenders from throughout the region qualified to compete in the 49th edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
The first of six performances that will be held in Red Deer at the Peavy Mart Centrium at Westerner Park start tomorrow – Wednesday, Nov. 1 – and wind up this coming Sunday, Nov. 5
Throughout the span of five, action-packed days, all major pro-rodeo events are on the docket including bareback, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing, and bull riding.
Rodeo fans will also get the chance to check out junior steer riding, novice saddle and bareback riding as well as breakaway roping during select performances.
Among the tough-as-nails competitors from throughout the region who intend to grow their accumulated earnings from this season while along the way adding some notches on their proverbial belts and perhaps even claiming a prize-winning buckle are:
• Havana Aarsby, from Carstairs, ranked fourth in junior steer riding with earning of about $4,620;
• Kyle Lucas, from Carstairs, ranked seventh in tie-down roping with earnings of about $25,320;
• Ryan Shuckburgh, from Innisfail, ranked ninth in steer wrestling with earnings of about $18,930;
• Morgan Grant, from Didsbury, ranked 10th in steer wrestling with earnings of about $18,622;
• Wyatt Gleeson, from Sundre, ranked eighth in bull riding with earnings of about $23,257; and
• Trey Gallais, from Sundre, ranked ninth in team roping with earnings of about $21,584.
The event is officially sanctioned by the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. This is the last year Canadian Finald Rodeo will be held in Red Deer. The event moves on to Edmonton in 2024.
