Sixteen residents attended Mountain View County Deputy Reeve Patricia McKean's spring open house at the Big Prairie Hall on April 17.
During the meeting the first-term councillor for Div. 2 said she will seek another term in the October 2013 municipal election.
“Yes, I will be running again,” said McKean. “I'm excited to see the MDP (municipal development plan) keep going forward. I'm excited to see the Acme Road project get done. And I'm excited not to have issues such as the Big Prairie Bridge hanging over me for my whole term. I'm exited to see things going forward and working positively.”
Topics discussed at the April 17 open house included the Big Prairie Bridge project, various road projects in the division, and road bans now in place across the county.
In response to a question from a resident, McKean said the county's new municipal development plan, which was adopted by council last year, has been working well.
“For the most part people have been happy,” she said. “There has been some discussion around agriculture parcels. There are some little things we are working through with that. I've helped ratepayers through applications and once they see the map, and it's going quite well.”
McKean said the Big Prairie Bridge project, which was originally scheduled to resume on April 15, will get started as soon as weather permits.
“We are all waiting for the weather to improve,” she said.
Asked if the new bridge will have a pullover area for people to park, she said yes.
McKean gave an update on the Acme Road upgrade project, which gets underway this month.
She also gave an update on the recently announced upgrade to the Highway 2-27 intersection. The upgrade should markedly improve traffic safety at the location, she said.
McKean said she was pleased with the turnout and comments at her April 17 open house.
All seven MVC councillors have been conducting spring meetings in their respective divisions to speak to constituents and outline county business.
