INNISFAIL -- Robyn O'Brien believes she can make a difference to the citizens of Innisfail-Sylvan Lake through her work experience in the non-profit sector.

The NDP candidate for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, who was born and raised in Red Deer, is especially hopeful this can be done through her party's recent announcement of expanding its $25-a-day daycare program with 13,000 new daycare spaces if the party wins the upcoming election.

“The $25-a-day daycare announcement that came down is a big deal and I can see it impacting a lot of families, and giving them a choice to go back to work or staying home with families. A lot of people don’t have that choice," said the university educated 33-year-old who recently became a Sylvan Lake resident.

“I encourage people in my riding who are interested to reach out to me for support so I can help them create the non-profits and take advantage of this new policy. My goal would be to see every single community in my riding have affordable child care options like this.

"That is my dream," she added. "If we could do that a lot of people will then have the choice to go back to work.”

In the meantime, she is also sending a strong message while campaigning in and around Innisfail that there should not be any consideration to make any cuts to health and education.

“I hear from a lot of folks at the door, as well as from UCP members, about the wait times at Red Deer  hospital and the facilities are understaffed, and yet (Jason) Kenney is promising a spending freeze and cuts," said O'Brien.
