DIDSBURY - Didsbury RCMP will be getting its new detachment commander on May 23.

Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier is looking forward to leading the detachment and getting to know the area and the residents. Fournier was previously in Airdrie where he worked in operations.

"It's a long-term assignment," Fournier told the Gazette. "I'll be here for probably a year at minimum. Before that I was in charge of operations in the Airdrie detachment and then Cochrane before that."

Fournier has been with the RCMP for almost 17 years.

"I'm really looking forward to Didsbury," he said. "Having that stronger connection with a smaller community is very appealing.

"Coming from working in big detachments it's nice to have that small-town connection, which I was used to when I started with the RCMP."

Fournier expects there will be some changes when he takes over from Sgt. Kimberley Pasloske, who was detachment commander for two years in Didsbury.

"I think with every new person there's always going to be a little change," he said. "With Sgt. Pasloske there has been really strong leadership here for the past few years. My understanding is that the members are hard working and do a good job as well. My vision is to keep that going and working hard to serve the community and also bring those people to justice who are responsible for crimes."

Didsbury RCMP detachment covers Big Prairie, Carstairs, Cremona, Didsbury, Dog Pound, Elkton, Garfield, Midway, Neapolis, Water Valley, Westcott and Zella.
