A 28-year-old man who sexually assaulted a female acquaintance in Olds two years ago has been handed a federal prison sentence.The accused pleaded guilty before Judge George Gaschner in Didsbury provincial court on Wednesday to one count of sexual assault.On Aug. 27, 2009 the accused and the 18-year-old victim were at an Olds residence watching a movie when the accused forced himself upon her, prosecutor Deven Singhal told the judge.ìHe told her, ëYou know you're going to be (expletive deleted),' and she replied, ëNo, I'm not,'î said Singhal.The accused then forcibly removed the woman's clothes and assaulted her, he said.During the assault, the accused bit the woman on the neck, injuring her.The pair had known each other for many years prior to the assault, he said.During sentencing, the accused told the judge, ìWords don't describe what I feel for the wrong I did. I apologize.îThe judge sentenced Jeremy Mattheis, 28, to 28 months in prison and placed him on the national sex offender registry for 20 years.Man caught drunk driving twice in three daysA 36-year-old man caught drunk driving twice in a three-day period in September has been fined.The accused pleaded guilty on Wednesday to two charges of driving with a blood-alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent.The accused was stopped at an RCMP checkstop on Highway 2A just outside Didsbury on Sept. 17, court heard.His blood-alcohol level was 130 mg per cent.Two days later, on Sept. 19, an RCMP officer standing outside the Didsbury hospital observed the accused crash his vehicle into a ditch as he headed eastbound out of town.The accused's blood-alcohol level at the time was 180 mg per cent.In the accident the accused suffered minor injuries to his head and neck, and caused about $8,000 damage to the vehicle, court heard.ìIt's out of character and I'm sorry,î the accused told the judge.Judge Gaschner fined Robert Slimon, 36, a total of $2,800 and prohibited him from driving for three years.Prosecutor Roy Smith told the judge the Crown did not seek the usual mandatory 30-day jail sentence for the accused on the second drunk driving conviction because the first conviction had not occurred before the second charge was laid.
