A partial eclipse will dim skies across Central Alberta April 8.
People in much of Alberta will be treated to a partial solar eclipse when the moon passes in front of the sun for a few hours next month.
The sun will be partially obscured in a partial eclipse starting at 11:50 a.m. and reaches its maximum at 12:44 p.m.
Watch a simulation of what the eclipse will look like in the Mountain View County and Red Deer County areas.
The duration and coverage of the eclipse varies, depending on location, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) said.
On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will plunge parts of Eastern Canada into darkness for a few minutes and areas further away will experience a partial eclipse, said the CSA.
The solar eclipse will make its way across Mexico, the U.S. and Canada April 8, but if you want to see the full eclipse you will have to travel to Eastern Canada. The total eclipse in Canada will begin in Hamilton, Ontario at 3:18 p.m. ET and end in Gander, Newfoundland at 5:12 p.m. NT. It will be the first time in 50 years that a solar eclipse occurs.
The agency said proper eye protection with a solar filter is required to prevent eye damage when watching a partial solar eclipse as regular sunglasses do not provide enough protection.
