CARSTAIRS - It was truly the dog days of summer at Sparkle and Shine Car and Dog Wash in Carstairs recently.
Pawsitive Haven Animal Rescue held a show and shine fundraiser on Aug. 17 at the car and dog wash, which saw plenty of people and pooches stop by. The event featured all types of vehicles on display, as well as vendors and a barbecue. There were also several kittens and puppies on hand.
Ashley Reid, one of the founders of the organization, said the show and shine went very well.
"It was an amazing day," said Reid. "The turnout was awesome and was way better than I anticipated. We adopted five dogs from the show and shine. It was great. We know if we keep working hard and planning events and raising money we can keep going and help more and more animals."
In total, more than $5,000 was raised at the event for the animal rescue organization. Reid said money is much needed for the growing group.
"We put most of that on our veterinarian bill and the rest we are going to put towards the fence," she said. "We also need a new washer and dryer so that is our next goal. We also have a bunch of spay and neuters coming up as well."
Reid said they're so grateful to all the volunteers for making the day so wonderful.
"Our team of volunteers is amazing and made the day so much fun," she said. "We really couldn't do this without them. This was a dream of Sheena (Forsythe) and I and we never in a million years thought we could make it a reality. Now six months later we are living our dream."
Pawsitive Haven began as a dog rescue shelter. Reid said they've rescued and adopted out 130 dogs since the doors opened in April.
The shelter has just recently began to add cats.
"We weren't planning on taking in cats. However, Edna (Tails to Tell Shelter in Crossfield) is pretty full and Wild Rose (Humane Society shelter in Didsbury) is full for cats right now," she said. "So we've renovated and now have an awesome cat room."
