Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sought to reassure Canadians that the federal government has "got your back," during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
He urged those seeking to access the $82-billion aid program announced on Wednesday to watch Canada.ca for the latest information.
Trudeau said the public service is working to make sure the newly announced supports will get to Canadians as soon as possible.
"Were continuing to pull out all the stops to keep you safe," Trudeau said.
He said research work is ongoing across the country on how COVID-19 spreads and on new vaccines.
The Prime Minister thanked scientists and researchers frontline healthcare workers.
He also announced the following:
- The government will expedite access to COVID-19 test kits to make sure the system can keep up with increasing demand
- Officials are working on the details of new border measures. Trudeau said they are expected to take effect overnight Friday to Saturday
- The country still needs blood donors urged blood donors to book online at Blood.ca or 1-888-236-6283
- A text message was sent to Canadians abroad about consular services available. Trudeau reiterated that it is time for Canadians abroad to come home
- The government is working hard to resolve issues of people have trouble coming back.
