CARSTAIRS - The 32nd annual Pumpkin Festival in Carstairs was a hit with visitors and participants alike, say organizers.

Held on Oct. 1, the festival attracted more than 200 people, including many youngsters.

Longtime organizing committee member Anne Strilchuk says cool and foggy weather proved to be helpful for the festival with lots of people deciding to come by instead of driving out of town.

“It was a really nice weekend,” she said. “It was wonderful. The entertainment was really good. I was very pleased.”

The festival is put on by the Carstairs Agricultural Society. This year Alberta Culture helped out with a $1,000 grant.

The largest pumpkin entered in the festival this year was grown right in Carstairs by Adrian Warden. His winning pumpkin came in at 84.5 pounds (39 kilograms).

Judging was also done for a great variety of agricultural products again this year.

Strilchuk said the organizers hope to involve the local home economics department students in the 2017 festival.

The Roulston Museum also had family activities during the day in conjunction with the Pumpkin Festival.
