QE II road work expected to impact traffic

Motorists using Highway 2 northbound between Olds and Innisfail over the next 10 weeks can expect delays due to planned road construction.

Motorists using Highway 2 northbound between Olds and Innisfail over the next 10 weeks can expect delays due to planned road construction.

Alberta Transportation will be paving an 18-kilometre stretch from the Highway 27 intersection east of Olds to about two kilometres north of the town of Bowden. All the paving will be taking place in the northbound lanes.

The project will also include intersection improvements at Twp. Rd. 334 and Twp. Rd. 340, as well as improvements to the northbound ramp from Highway 27 onto Highway 2, removal of a roadside rest area, replacement of the street lighting at the intersection of Highway 587 and Highway 2, as well as other minor work.

Construction is expected to begin this month and continue until mid-August.

Grading of the intersection and ramp improvements will take place during daylight hours, seven days a week, while paving will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., seven days a week.

The project will involve the operation of a temporary asphalt plant to be located in the northeast quadrant of the Highway 27 and Highway 2 intersection.

“As with any construction project, travellers may experience speed reductions, lane closures and minor delays,” officials said in a press release. "No detours are anticipated.”

Updates on the project will be available at 511.alberta.ca.
