The Olds and District Music Teachers Association (ODMTA) recently held its annual scholarship recital at First Baptist Church in Olds.
Sixteen students from Olds and surrounding communities performed a variety of piano, vocal, and instrumental selections for an appreciative audience of more than 100 people.
At the conclusion of the recital, 16 scholarships were presented to those students who received the highest examination marks for the 2015-16 teaching year.
In addition, thanks to the generosity of many local and area businesses, individuals, and organizations, the association was also able to award 16 additional scholarships to students who received a minimum mark of 80 per cent.
This year, $3,700 was awarded to students.
We are pleased to be able to give recognition and encouragement to these students and wish them much success in their continued music studies. Congratulations to each recipient.
The ODMTA scholarship recipients were as follows:
• Piano: Aiden Hoffman (Preparatory A), Ethan Evans (Preparatory B), Joe Wiwcharuk (Level 1), Juan-Pierre Hoffman (Level 2), Ellie Petersen (Level 3), April Nichol (Level 4), Brooke Jackson (Level 6).
• Jean Rix Memorial Award: Melissa Hiebert (Level 9 Piano).
• Voice: Lize-Marie Hoffman (Level 2).
• Instrumental: Mataia Jelinek (Level 1—Percussion), Kaja Jonsson (Level 2—Flute), Ben Hindbo (Level 4—Percussion).
• Theory and Pegagogy: Sage Hughes (Basic Rudiments), Rexelle Asis (Intermediate Rudiments), Melissa Hiebert (Advanced Rudiments), Sage Jackson (History 1).
• Honourable mentions: Preparatory A Piano: Sara Dobush, Sophia Dodd, Mataia Jelinek, Emma Robertson. Level 1 Piano: Grace Kreiser. Level 2 Piano: Ivan Silivanyuk. Level 4 Piano: Correne Minty.
