RED DEER COUNTY - Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Red Deer County and nearby urban centres Wednesday.

“Light freezing rain continues across central Alberta. Freezing rain will end this evening,” the federal agency’s 3:18 p.m. Dec. 4 alert update said.

A warning is issued when freezing rain is expected to pose a hazard to transportation or property or when freezing rain is expected for at least two hours.

The warning was issued for Red Deer County near Penhold, Innisfail, Bowden, Elnora, Lousana, Delburne, Pine Lake, Spruce View, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Sylvan Lake.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays,” the warning said.

The federal agency advises to slow down when driving in slippery conditions.

“Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
