Reeve Bruce Beattie says he is considering his options regarding his future on council following the death of his wife Val on Christmas Eve.ìI'm trying not to make a rash decision,î Beattie said at press time Thursday, adding that he intended to talk to CAO Tony Martens and fellow councillors about his future by the end of last week.ìI'm trying to decide what my options are and what I'm doing,î Beattie said. ìI made a commitment (to sit on council) but at the same time it's a big change in my life. I'm trying to make the correct decision.îVal Beattie, 61, died from liver disease in Sundre hospital on Dec. 24. She had been moved to the Sundre facility one week earlier from intensive care in Edmonton, where she had been undergoing treatment.ìWe were just so happy she was able to come back and spend her last week here,î Beattie said.Val was remembered as an avid curler, dedicated volunteer and active member of the Sundre Light Horse Club. Since 1977, she and her husband operated West Hawk Farms in Bergen.About 280 people attended the memorial service for her at Bergen Hall last Wednesday.Beattie, 64, was elected reeve by council in October after serving almost a year as deputy reeve.
