Road crews are busy working on 20th Avenue in Didsbury removing the sidewalks in preparation for street widening and other improvements as part of the 20th Avenue rehabilitation project. Residents can expect delays while driving on the street. The project is expected to be completed at the end of July.

DIDSBURY - Work on the 20th Avenue rehabilitation project is well underway. The main street into Didsbury is facing some major work with crews expanding the street and adding new street lights as well as milling and paving from 14th Street to 19th Street.

The project starts with the removal of the concrete sidewalks, which will progress from 14th Street west to 19th Street one block at a time, said Greg Skotheim, manager of public works and infrastructure, in a letter to local residents.

"When all concrete replacement has been completed, 20th Avenue will have the asphalt milled out and repaved," said Skotheim. "20th Avenue from 14th Street to 19th Street will be closed during this milling and paving work and detours will be in place."

The project, which is expected to be completed at the end of July, contains several different components:

ï (On now) project begins with the removal of the sidewalks.

ï New street lights will be installed alternating on both sides of 20th Avenue. These lights will only be placed on town property and will not encroach onto landowners' property lines.

ï The milling and paving is expected for a week at the end of July, subject to weather conditions.

"We hope to keep 20th Avenue as open and accessible as possible throughout the project, however, there may be various detours and road closures needed during the course of the construction," said Skotheim.
