DIDSBURY - JD's Restaurant raised more than $2,000 at its Thanksgiving Ham Dinner Fundraiser, with the proceeds going to three local charities.
The money will be distributed to the Didsbury Christmas Helpers hamper program ($1,220), Essentials for our Community ($500) and Mountain View Food Bank ($400), said owner/operator Jae Teskey.
"We fed about 210 people," said Teskey. "I didn't know what to expect. It was a good mix of people. We had a lot of generous donations from the customers. It wasn't just $5, many paid more than that which was awesome."
There were also a number of volunteers who stepped up to help with the event, she noted.
Linda Sirr from the Christmas Helpers said they were very grateful for the donation.
"Our heartfelt thanks goes to all who made the ham dinner such an overwhelming success," said Sirr. "Your generous gift is such an encouragement as we begin our 2019 hamper program."
Sirr said they are hoping to provide 150 hampers this year for those in need in the community. Anyone who wants to help out can call Sirr at 403-335-4832.
"Didsbury is filled with so many caring people," she said. "Thanks so much."
