Ride for Dad June 22

Rural Alberta Motorcycle Ride For Dad organizers are hoping for good weather June 22 for the group's fifth anniversary event that will make stops in Olds and Didsbury.

Rural Alberta Motorcycle Ride For Dad organizers are hoping for good weather June 22 for the group's fifth anniversary event that will make stops in Olds and Didsbury.

Motorcyclists are banding together that day for a cavalcade parade through the two towns to raise awareness and funds in the fight against prostate cancer.

“If the weather's good we could have 300. If the weather's bad we could have three,” joked ride chair Dean Harper.

Participants will parade through uptown Olds on 50th Street during the community's Summer Oldstice event and are scheduled to head out of town via Highway 2A to Didsbury at 4:30 p.m.

Harper encourages onlookers to line the route and cheer the cyclists on.

“Any encouragement we can give these guys would sure be appreciated,” Harper said.

The cavalcade should reach Didsbury by 4:40 p.m. and will parade down main street starting in the south.

Men are encouraged to have baseline PSA testing done in the Man Van which will be parked at the Zion church in Didsbury from 3 - 7 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

“Men, get tested. That's what this is all about. Raising awareness about testing for prostate cancer. It's so important,” said Harper.

In the six years Ride For Dad has been operational, Harper said a half million dollars have been raised.

In Didsbury alone, the Mountainview Colts and Three Hills Thrashers raised nearly $40,000 this year for the local chapter.
