The Mountain View County municipal planning commission has approved a development permit for a $600,000 riding arena on the northeast side of the county.

The approval came during the MPC's regularly scheduled meeting on July 17.

The 21,600 square foot arena will be built on the southeast corner of Twp. Rd. 334 and Rge. Rd. 281 in the community of Reed Ranch. The owners and applicants are John and Elsa Lukacs.

The arena will provide horse-training services, lessons and clinics, the commission heard.

The facility will be located at NW 24-33-28-4. It will be allowed to host up to 15 events, shows and competitions per year, with up to 50 truck/trailer units participating at each event.

The year-round facility will have no employees other than the applicants' family members, John Lukacs told the commission.

The application was circulated to 13 adjacent landowners and no letters or calls of objection were received.

The development permit application approved on July 17 includes a condition that the owner will practice environmental land management as outlined in the county's Manure and Horse Management for Horse Owners regulations.
