CARSTAIRS-DIDSBURY - Three former area residents are coming back to the district to play a show with the Calgary band From Under the Stone at All Jacked Up Bar and Grill in Didsbury on Nov. 30.

Drummer Clay Steadman and lead singer Cody Harris hail from Carstairs, while guitarist-vocalist Sarah McKnight, nee Ferguson, is from Didsbury.

All three are excited to return to the area to play the show with their bandmates.

The trio grew up here and played for local bands: Steadman and Harris with the punk group Inspected by 40, while McKnight played with 7 Deadly Grins.

From Under the Stone features plenty of original tunes meshing the sounds of punk rock, metal and Celtic music.

"Some of our influences are The Real McKenzies," said Steadman. "Maybe the Dropkick Murphys, stuff like that. We're really a unique band. We really have our own sound. We're pretty heavy compared to those bands but we also have that Celtic sound. We have a fiddler and a bagpiper."

Steadman said people who come to the show can expect a rocking good time.

"We play mostly originals," he said. "We may play a few covers at the show. We have about two hours' worth of material that's all original. We're pretty excited about playing in Didsbury. We haven't played there before with this band. It'll be like our unofficial homecoming."

Steadman said he started playing music at the age of 14.

"Cody and I, we started a band in Carstairs as kids called Inspected by 40," he said. "We played in that band for about 10 years playing all around Didsbury, Carstairs and Olds. We were a little more into heavy metal and punk with that band.

"We knew Sarah, our guitar player, from playing in gigs alongside her band. That's how we ended up knowing Sarah. Now all these years later we're in a band together."

From Under the Stone has a digital LP, We Just Got Here, which is available on iTunes and other sources.

The Nov. 30 show is expected to start some time after 9:30 p.m. and there is no charge to attend.
