After a very successful first season in 2015-16, the Mountain View Cowpoke Junior Rodeo Club has put out the call for local youngsters to get on board for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Held at the Raecer Ranching Arena at Westward Ho, the rodeo features competitors age three to 14.

Events in the upcoming season will be the same as last season: goat tying, goat untying, pole bending, steer riding, breakaway roping and barrel racing.

The all-around boys winner in the 2015-16 season was Denton Argent and the all-around girls winner was Casey Cyrankeiwicz.

The 2016-17 season kicks off with the first rodeo on Oct. 29. Following rodeo events will be held Nov. 19, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 25, with the finals on April 15.

Co-organizer Patricia McKean says club members learn all the rodeo skills under expert instruction and also get to make lots of new friends along the way.

“We had 84 competitors at the end of last season and we hope to have the same or more for the new season,” said McKean. “We are also looking for sponsors to help us with our financial needs this year.”

Anyone interested in signing their kids up for the upcoming season or in becoming a sponsor can contact organizers at [email protected].
