A senior resident of Mountain View County has auctioned off his collection of antique tractors after collecting them for 30 years.

Werner Harms sold his entire 55-piece collection at an auction at his home on Aug. 22 because of his health.

He is 70 years old and has been collecting John Deere tractors since he was 40.

Harms' property is located off Highway 2A between Olds and Didsbury and he has lived in the area for about 55 years.

The senior said he is happy with how the auction went, but admits it has been bittersweet getting rid of his collection.

“It went pretty good, I can't complain,” said Harms. “I hate to see it go, but you knew it had to, because of health reasons.”

He said he started collecting them as a hobby.

“I just liked the old tractors,” he said.

The tractors in his collection are from all over the world and were built between 1925 and 1953. His favourite tractor was a 1932 Depression D.

He said he was not aware of the amount made from the auction by press time Thursday.
