DIDSBURY - The members of the Didsbury Skatepark Committee are all smiles after receiving a donation from the local Tim Hortons from the company's smile cookie campaign.

The restaurant gave a cheque to the society on Sept. 24 to the tune of more than $3,000.

The four skatepark committee members, Ryley Lodermeier, Reid Nichols, Roman Enns and Seth Kirk, told the Gazette they were thrilled to learn they were chosen to be this year's recipient for the Tim Hortons smile cookie campaign in DIdsbury.

"Every cookie they sold we got a dollar from," said Lodermeier. "The owner of Tim Hortons approached us about doing the smile campaign. We gratefully accepted. This will be a big help."

The boys are also grateful to the community for helping out with the project, which would see a new skateboard park built on the outlying grounds of the Didsbury Memorial Complex.

The Town of Didsbury has already committed the land for the project, as well as $39,000 for community engagement and design process. The highlights of the park, which is 9,500 square feet, include a mini-ramp bowl, larger deep bowl, rails and a combo quarter pipe.

"We've raised around $100,000 including in-kind donations," said Nichols. "Our target is around $500,000."

The group is currently waiting to hear on a number of potential funding sources including the Alberta Blue Cross Healthy Communities grant and the Kraftville Project Play.
