Mountain View County road crews were kept busy over the Christmas weekend responding to the large snowfall event across the region, says Ron Baker, director of operations.

More than 20 centimetres of snow fell in the district starting on Dec. 23, prompting a call-in of numerous truck and equipment operators, he said.

“We had a really good response from all of our guys,” said Baker. “We had to call a lot of our guys in. We knew it was coming, but there was a lot of snow. There was 22 centimetres in all and it just didn't seem to stop snowing.

“With the wind that came with it the drifting was more intense than we thought it was going to be. As you are plowing along and pushing the snow to the sides you are creating windrows that drift in pretty quick if the wind keeps going.”

All the main collector roads were plowed by Dec. 27 with crews working on the gravel roads throughout the week.
