Despite frigid temperatures in the -20s, about 70 competitors took part in the second annual Bergen Red Neck Sled Drags on Jan. 16.

Held at a property right in Bergen, the seven-hour event saw snowmobiles in a great variety of categories, including kids, vintage, classic vintage and up to 1,000- cc machine classes.

“There were a lot of 800-cc machines. That's our biggest class,” said Cathy Jasmin, who organized the event with Kirk Schmitke and Mike Jasmin.

Competitors competed on a straight track course, with most heats involving four machines.

“We had a pretty good turnout despite the cold,” she said.

Ken Baker won in the classic vintage class, Trevor Giesbrecht won the vintage class, Ken Cammer won the 1000 mod class and the 1,000 class, Tom Foster won the 800 mod class, Mike Jasmin won the 800 class, Jesse Cornelson won the 700 mod class, Ken Ditlof won the 700 class, Jesse Cornelson won the 600 mod class and the 600 class, and Rick Wilson won the 500 class.

The winners in the kids class were Trippett Lunde (first), Court Hislop (second) and Trent Hislop (third).

“For the kids class, we gave a plaque and a prize to the first-, second- and third- place winners. We also gave a prize to each kid who came out to race. Whether or not they won a plaque, they all got a prize. We gave a plaque and prize for each sled class for the adults,” she said.

Organizers have not yet decided whether there will be a third annual Bergen Red Neck Sled Drags in 2017, she said.
