About 800 music lovers attended the 16th annual Water Valley Celtic Festival on June 21, taking in performances from more than 340 artists and enjoying fine early summer weather.

Festival founder and musician Dave Settles called this year's festival a hit.

“Wow, what a day,” said Settles. “The festival was a great success from all that I heard and experienced.”

As in past years, this year's festival relied heavily on volunteers: there were more than 80 on the job this time around.

Settles commended them for their efforts.

The 2013 festival took place at the height of the floods in Calgary and area, making it difficult for some performers to attend. This year, the weather cooperated very well.

“Even though it was a bit of a slow start from the weatherman by noon even he kicked in and kept up his word, cleared it off by noon and the rest of the day was magical,” said Settles.

As he has in past years, Olds' Dave Casselman filmed many of the performances at the festival. They are at www.CasselmanCanada.com.

The Water Valley Celtic Festival is based on a similar festival at Feakle, Co. Clare, Ireland.
