Subdivision approved

CARSTAIRS - Council approved a subdivision application at its regular council meeting on Nov. 26 after hearing a delegation from Sarah Neilsen of Urban Systems.

CARSTAIRS - Council approved a subdivision application at its regular council meeting on Nov. 26 after hearing a delegation from Sarah Neilsen of Urban Systems.

"That goes from Gough Street to Idaho Street where the Rona store was," said CAO Carl McDonnell. "They were proposing to go from one lot to five lots."

The subject site comprises 0.81 hectares in the town's south-central area directly west of the CPR right-of-way.

The lots will be sold for commercial, said McDonnell.

In other council news, council voted to approve a new fire services agreement between the town and Mountain View County.

McDonnell said the new agreement replaces the old one.

"It was pretty straightforward," he said. "The other one had a fire advisory committee, this one the ICC (intermunicipal cooperation committee) will handle it. So just the structure changed, the funding will all stay the same."

Mountain View Country also approved the new agreement during the Nov. 28 council meeting.

Council approved a proposal from Pam Montgomery of the Carstairs Community Development and Economic Partnership regarding a heritage festival at Carstairs Memorial Park in the summer.

"They're proposing to do a festival on June 8, 2019," he said. "They're looking at groups in Calgary and Red Deer and other ones to celebrate Carstairs' Scottish heritage. They came looking for funding from the town. Council is considering for the 2019 budget. They fully support the festival."

The committee is expected to return to council at a later date with finalized plans including locations required, additional resources needed and the funding request, said O'Donnell.

Council approved a motion to update the construction and infrastructure design standards to include stormwater.

Council also approved a road closure for next weekend's Carstairs Crazy Christmas event on Dec. 7 for 10th Avenue South from Centre Street to Nanton Street.
