Top five Halloween events this week

Sundre, Didsbury and Olds are holding Halloween events Oct. 25 and Oct. 26

With Halloween falling on a Thursday this year, many groups are taking advantage of the weekend before the Oct. 31 celebration to host their events.

Here are five events to check out starting Friday:

Sundre

• The Royal Canadian Legion Sundre Branch #223 is hosting on Saturday, Oct. 26 a Halloween dance at its hall, which is located at 135, 6th Street SE, with the doors opening at 7:30 p.m. and live music by The Whiskey Stagger Band. The cost of admission is $20 and there will be prizes donated by local businesses for best costumes as well as tickets sold for door prizes with proceeds going back to the branch to support veterans. 

• The Sundre Municipal Library has also once again partnered up with the Sundre and District Museum to host the return of the Halloween Extravaganza by putting on some family-friendly activities at the museum’s historic village grounds on Saturday, Oct. 26 starting with kids’ carnival games from 5-7 p.m. as well as a haunted village running from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Entry for the haunted village at the museum, which located at 211, 1st Avenue SW, is by cash donation for the Raise the Roof project, or non-perishable and non-expired food items for the Plus 1 Emergency Food Hamper program.

Didsbury

• Bring the whole family to this year’s Hallowe'en Howler at the Didsbury Memorial Complex at 1702, 21 Avenue from 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, October 25. Dance the night away to a spooky DJ sponsored by Didsbury FCSS. First 100 kids get a treat bag, and there will be prizes for costumes. There will also be a hot dog and snack concession available. Admission is $20/family.

Olds

• Halloween Swim at Olds Aquatic Centre  Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 – 9 p.m. This family-friendly event will include face painting, games, prizes and navigating a haunted hallway! The WIBIT will also be in the pool this evening. Regular admission rates apply. Bring your friends and family for a thrilling evening of Halloween fun!

• Halloween Howl in Uptowne Olds on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 – 4 p.m. Uptowne Olds business members dress up, decorate their businesses, and hand out candy to all the kids. Events include: trick or treating at Uptowne businesses, BGC of Olds and Area haunted house, spooky and creepy photo booth Frayed Knot Western Consignment, a scary museum tour at Mountain View Museum & Archives, Harry Potter Bakery at Cocoa Tree Bake Shoppe, Pokémon Card Giveaway at Pandora’s Boox, Halloween Gift Baskets at A Gallery of Floors Ltd., Harry Potter giveaway at Jensen’s Men’s Wear, Scooby Doo Mysteries at the Beech CoWork, Candy Chute at Rips Audio Video & Spas, Pumpkin Carving at the Olds Sportsplex with the Olds Grizzlys 1 – 4 p.m., treat bag making and pumpkin smash at 2 p.m. at Cam Clark Ford, Pumpkin Drop Bucket Lift U18 Grizzlys and Olds Fire Department.

Costume party at Our Flames Lounge starting at 8 p.m.
