DIDSBURY -- The fifth annual Didsbury Antique Tractor Olympics was a big hit with participants and spectators alike.

Held at the Didsbury Ag Grounds, the event featured 15 operators from Didsbury, Carstairs, Cremona, Olds and Linden competing in a number of events.

Organizer Cliff Scott said everything went well and everyone seemed to have a good time.

"We had a pretty good crowd out there watching," said Scott. "These guys all have a lot of fun doing this."

Scott started up the tractor olympics after a number of years of running the tractor pulls.

"I would hear these oldtimers say, 'well, now I'm done, what do I do?'" said Scott. "So my mind got going and I happened to pick up my farm show magazine and there was a write-up in it about these antique tractor games."

Scott was able to contact the organizers and got a brochure sent to him.

"I thought, why not try it?" he said. "I started putting things together and making things I could use."

The tractor olympics features many popular events including the wagon backing, plant the potatoes, barrel roll, obstacle course and dunk the chicken.

Scott said all the events are timed, which keeps things moving.

"It's just different things you would do that take place on a farm," he said. "Some of these guys have spent a lot of time and money fixing up their tractors but they don't want to pull them. They don't want them to break down. Doing these games they can use the tractor and it's not getting hurt."

The First Alberta Two Cylinder Club will be hosting its Antique Tractor Days on June 8 and 9 at the Didsbury Ag Grounds.
