Trap tournament shoots straight

Thirty-three shotgun enthusiasts took part in the 23rd annual Bob Brown Memorial Trap Shooting Tournament at the Lone Pine Clay Target Club east of Olds on July 30-31.

Thirty-three shotgun enthusiasts took part in the 23rd annual Bob Brown Memorial Trap Shooting Tournament at the Lone Pine Clay Target Club east of Olds on July 30-31.

In trap shooting all shooters use 12 gauge shotguns to shoot at flying clay targets.

On July 30, Clare Hebron of Edmonton won the singles AA event by hitting 98 out of 100 targets. Paul Blomquist won the singles A event by hitting 95 targets; Niklas Tebb won the singles B event by hitting 97 targets; and Don Checkel won the singles C event by hitting 91 targets.

Allan Radway won the handicap long event (from 25-27 feet) by hitting 91 targets; Les Grabill won the handicap mid event (22-24 feet) by hitting 90 targets; and Olds' Don Hirt won the handicap short (18-20 feet) event by hitting 92 targets.

Allan Radway won the AA doubles event by hitting 97 targets; Allan Day won the A doubles event by hitting 90 targets; Garry Tebb won the B doubles event by hitting 85 targets; and Don Checkel won the C doubles event by hitting 90 targets.

On July 31, Clare Hebron won the doubles AA event by hitting 92 targets; Fred Goodman won the doubles A event by hitting 89 targets; Paul Blomquist won the doubles B event by hitting 86 targets; and Bill Evans won the doubles C event by hitting 82 targets.

Clare Hebron won the singles AA event by hitting 100 out of 100 targets; Garry Tebb won the A singles event by hitting 93 targets; Ross Brown won the B singles event by hitting 98 targets; and Ed Wittemann won the C doubles event by hitting 93 targets.

Clare Hebron won the long handicap event by hitting 90 targets; Bill Evans won the mid handicap event by hitting 88 targets; and Don Hirt won the short handicap event by hitting 94 targets.

In the championship event, Clare Hebron won in singles by hitting 198 out of 200 targets; Olds' Don Hirt won the handicap by hitting 186 out of 200 targets; Hebron also won the doubles by hitting 187 out of 200 targets.

Clare Hebron won the high overall title by hitting 561 out of 600 targets.

Club member Joe Vasek called the tournament a great success, with good weather making for some fine shooting.
