TRAVEL ADVISORY: Saturday is Alberta highway clean-up day

OLDS – Volunteers of all ages from a variety of non-profit groups will be out in the ditches and on the sides of roads across Alberta on Saturday, May 4 for the 48th annual clean-up day.

Volunteers in orange safety vests will be collecting trash along provincial highways between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, obey signs, watch for pedestrians and use caution when passing cleanup crews.

"On May 4, join us in keeping Alberta’s highways clean and safe for everyone. Together, we can make a difference in our communities. I want to thank all the volunteers for participating in this year’s annual highway cleanup,” said Devin Dreeshen, minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors in a prepared statement.

In the event of poor weather or wildfire activity, some areas may complete the cleanup on May 11, or delay until later in the month.
