A tow ban instituted on portions of Highway 2 in central Alberta Tuesday evening due to hazardous road conditions was lifted Wednesday afternoon.

The province's travel advisory service, 511 Alberta, noted in a 12:48 p.m. Jan. 22 update that the ban between Edmonton and Highway 616 had ended.

Starting late Tuesday afternoon, reduced visibility and slippery sections made for extremely hazardous road conditions along the roadway also known as the Queen Elizabeth II Highway.

“Due to deteriorating weather conditions tow operations will be on hold” between Edmonton and Blackfalds," RCMP said in a release issued Tuesday night.

RCMP also advised against travel between Edmonton and Calgary Tuesday night, as they were responding to a number of collisions.
