DIDSBURY - A good crowd came out to the first Git on Up GMC vintage truck show held on 19th Street in Didsbury.

The event featured more than 100 trucks and close to 300 spectators, according to organizers.

The event was organized by three antique truck enthusiasts from Central Alberta including Didsbury's own Justin Tippet from Tippin Inc.

"The town was really great to work with," said Kevin Stickel, one of the organizers from Calgary. "We learned a few things in terms of how to make it even bigger and better next year. It's been really great."

Stickel said they contemplated having the event in Calgary but decided on Didsbury instead.

"It's such a great little town," he said. "We thought it was also nice and central for our friends in Calgary and Edmonton as well as Red Deer. It's an easy place to get to. Very central. Most people drove their own vehicles here. Some of these, because they're 40 years old, you can drive them but you don't want to drive them for four hours necessarily. Going an hour is a good drive for any of these vehicles."

The truck enthusiasts had a cruise on the Friday night before the show.

"We drove through Carstairs to Cochrane and back," he said on Saturday of the event. "We then had a mixer at 582 Bar and Grill. Then today and tomorrow, the show 'n' shine."
