The Medicine River Wildlife Centre is looking for up to four volunteers to help guide its affairs for the next two years. The centre's 10-member board of directors currently has six spots filled and wants to fill the remaining spots by the end of this month.Carol Kelly, the centre's executive director, said board members will be involved in guiding every aspect of the centre from generating fundraising ideas to developing policy. She said candidates would preferably have some interest in developing policy.ìWe're always looking at our policy manual and seeing if there's anything missing Ö or updating our policies. Those policies are the foundation for the centre to operate on,î she said.Kelly said the fundraising aspect of the board is done as a team effort, and board members aren't expected to spearhead it ñ unless they have an interest in doing that. While Kelly said it's not critical that all the vacancies get filled immediately, the sooner they are will be better for the board.ìEach board member doesn't have it all, but each board member brings a piece to the puzzle. We'd just love to see those (vacancies) filled with people who've got some excitement, energy, they believe in what the centre is doing,î she said. The Medicine River Wildlife Centre, situated in Spruce View, will be renovating the entire facility this year.ìThe basics are already in place and Ö probably about mid to late March we are going to launch a campaign. Really, those fundraising ideas are just sitting down with the board and Ö just brainstorming, coming up with creative new ways of fundraising. People get very tired of the standard ways and we're just looking at the newer, fresher ways to (fundraise),î she said, noting that the centre will be tapping into social media for fundraising ideas.A raffle the centre recently had raised about $13,000 to go toward the general operations of the centre.
