INNISFAIL - David Inscho is the latest and last candidate to enter the provincial byelection campaign.

Inscho, 62, of St. Paul, is a former farmer and heavy equipment operator and has worked in commercial construction across northern Alberta. Now mostly retired, Inscho will run as an Independent candidate in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake byelection on July 12.

"I've been interested in running for quite a long time," said Inscho. "I was one of the dissenters when they decided to go with the (UCP) unification.”

Inscho is a former provincial executive member and constituency association president with the Wildrose Party. He and a group of others decided to form the Alberta Advantage Party following the creation of the United Conservative Party.

They are not officially established but expect to be by the end of July, he noted. Inscho said he is running as an Independent while representing the values and the platform of the Alberta Advantage Party.

He said the issues facing the riding are the same as those found across Alberta, including the economy, health care, rural crime, seniors' issues and oil and gas.

"All the problems you have here and you see in this constituency, I see it over and over again from one end of the province to the other," said Inscho, noting his soon-0to-be party’s pragmatic and fiscally responsible approach.

"Definitely we want to see the books balanced. We don't want to be spending over our means, but we do not want to see it to the point where we're going to balance the budget at the expense of perhaps closing schools or closing hospitals," explained Inscho.

However, he does concede one challenge running as an Independent in Innisfail-Sylvan Lake.

"The biggest challenge for me is simply to get the word of the party out to the voters," Inscho concluded.
